The St. Leos Green School committee have been working very hard on the theme of Biodiversity for the last 2 years. The aim was to make the whole school body aware of the importance of biodiversity and to improve biodiversity in the school. The improvement in awareness has been achieved as a result of an awareness week in the school during March, when many fun activities were planned for the full school. The introduction of a wildlife garden into the school, along with the construction of our bug hotels, hedgehog pile, leaf piles, nesting boxes, bird feeders, planting of native species plants, and bee friendly flowers have all gone a long way to improve the biodiversity around the school. This has had a positive impact on everybody. What really impressed during the assessment was the cross curricular participation, with a subject areas in the school getting involved in some way during Biodiversity awareness week. The new green flag will be awarded by An Taisce to St. Leos at a function in Kilkenny on May 21st.
