Congratulations to St. Leo’s Chamber Choir on their recent competition success. On May 1st the choir travelled to Cork to compete in the 60th annual International Choral Festival. The standard of competing choirs in this prestigious competition was as high as ever. The choir members were thrilled to be awarded 2nd prize and a certificate of excellence for their performance of Michael McGlynn’s Incantations and Mr. Sandman by Pat Ballard. On Friday 9th May the choir travelled north to the Navan Choral Festival in Co. Meath. The girls delivered superb performances in three competitions. In the Youth Choir Competition the adjudicator couldn’t fault St. Leo’s performance and awarded them a fourth place trophy. The choir were determined to improve this placing in the next two competitions and provided outstanding performances. For a flawless rendition of Michael McGlynn’s Cúnnla the girls achieved first prize and a trophy in the Ógánaigh i nGaeilge Competition. They followed this with a sublime and powerful performance of the folk song Dan Dan Soy from the Philippines to retain the Paddy Newman Perpetual Cup for the second consecutive year in the Foreign Language Competition. Accompanist Ella Nagy, a third year student and member of the choir, was complimented for her superb piano playing. Conductor Mr. Ian Curran is extremely proud of all the girls and grateful for their dedication, spirit and commitment to choral excellence.
